About 2.5 billion people worldwide lack adequate sanitation – that’s one third of the global population – and 660 million of them live in East Asia and the Pacific. Inadequate sanitation takes a tremendous toll on the quality of peoples’ lives, the environment, and the economy.

Returns on sanitation investments are also high. Worldwide, every US dollar invested in sanitation yields $5.50 in return in terms of economic benefit yet this sector in India remains largely neglected. By 2030, 590 million people will live in Indian cities, twice the population of United States today. Urban norms for provisioning one Public Toilet per 2,500-3,000 persons and one every 300-500 meter on busy streets, or every 750-1,000 meter in other streets, will increase demand for self maintaining IPtoilets in coming years.

The development of self cleaning toilets in the world over has started long years back. But its cost and failure rate is very high and people are reluctant to use this technology. But now, development in the ICT and sensor technologies created more interest in self cleaning public toilets to solve operational bottlenecks. E-governance initiatives increased its acceptance among the decision makers. Online monitoring and sensor technologies used in IPtoilet system, made them the most cost effective system for public sanitation.  IPtoilet we designed keeping in mind of a specific group of users for whom safe and hygienic sanitation is important like women, on-site workers, city commuters, travelers, campers, etc.

1)         The concept of IPtoilet is basically built to address the difference in cultural behaviors of general public who have different and contrasting hygiene concepts
 

2)         IPtoilet resolves operational bottlenecks faced in Public Toilet management: IPtoilet with its intelligence, keep hygiene even with improper usage of occupants. IPtoilet has luxurious interiors and touch-free operations: The travelers prefer the comfort of their home toilets because of its neatness, hygiene, convenience and safety they enjoyed inside. IPtoilets give a world class experience in public toilets.

3)         Floor Hygiene concept: The unique technology in toilet design we have took is in its floors. The major importance is given for its highline is clean and hygiene public toilets.  Keeping in mind, the IPtoilet floors has two layers. One upper layer has 3mm thick 316 grade stainless steel sheets with 5mm perforation. It supports 1.5mm SS sheets underneath with proper ventilation and slanting for easy removal of waste water. It ensure all the grime from foot wears does not remain on the floor surface and thus periodical water jet cleaning of walls and floors are more effective.
 

4)         Online control and monitoring: We offer software for supervisory control over all installed IPtoilets. A GPRS system installed inside the toilets can transmit data like its usage, cleaning, sensor status to a remote computer. This in turn can monitor using web interface we provide. This can be used by supervisors or municipal authorities to ensure its proper operations. They can remotely on or off the system to prevent unwanted usage. The public will have a downloadable mobile application to find out working toilets nearby and also can report any complaints found.

5)         Proper maintenance with ISV: Without proper maintenance, public toilets are useless and a health hazard to the public. Intelligent Service Vehicle (ISV) which maintains a cluster of IPtoilets installed in and around a city or municipality. It has uniformed service person, pressure cleaning facility, mobile incinerator and service parts required for the maintenance and daily cleaning of installed IPtoilets. It just takes 5 to 10 minutes to clean one IPtoilet.

6)         Government Design: IPtoilets are currently supplied to a contractor who in turn billed to Kerala Public Works Department, Government of Kerala. Its unique civil design is done as per department instructions, considering general public and their behavior.

7)         Variant models: IPtoilet is designed with variant models to help men, women and disabled. Women friendly IPtoilets will have women-friendly features such as napkin vending machine, incinerator to destroy used napkins, baby stations for changing diapers and the like. IPtoilets in common will have automatic sensor taps and dustbins. Fans and lights will start functioning once the door is opened. There will be a water tank inside the toilet and the door will be opened only if the tank has enough water. The floor and wall cleaner will function automatically after preset intervals. There is automatic pre-flush when a person enters inside. It has power and water backup for its users in case of sudden power outage or water discontinuation. However before the backup depletes the toilet will be disabled for any new entry unless the power and water supply resumes. Coins can be used in public places; either smartcards or button press can be provided to operate these IPtoilets for schools, colleges and government offices and other closed user groups.

8)         Pre-flush mechanism: Most of the times, toilet hygiene is compromised since users may not wet the toilet pan before using it. Our IPtoilet employs pre-flush mechanism that wets the pan before every use automatically.

9)         Rugged and long lasting material: Our toilets are made using stainless steel on the inside and aluminum composite panel outside. One of the main reasons for this is because it is ‘stainless’. In addition to resisting stains, it is tamper proof, corrosion free, and lasts for a lifetime in good condition

10)     Automated for minimum user contact:  It is commonly observed in public toilets that people tend to spoil the door handle, switches, tap knobs, or flush knobs by rough use. By automating these operations, there is no need for any manual intervention except manually bolting the door from inside. It ensures minimum user contact and thus maximum hygiene.

11)     Never Locked inside: Once get inside the user will have to manually bolt and unbolt the door from inside. So there is absolutely no chance that a user can get stuck inside.

12)     Provision for revenue generation: Generally public toilets are kept in nooks and corners where there is no scope for advertisement. But the outer elevation can be customized to offer advertisement if requested. Further there is coin collection which can be used as a revenue making system. There is a possibility like a small utility shop or ATMs in areas where it requires.

13)     Waste treatment options: The waste is usually connected to the sewage line provided by the local authorities. However in places where there is no scope of any sewage line, we provide bio-membrane tanks which can separate fecal matter into bio-waste and completely odorless grey water.

14)     Water conservation: The system uses high pressure water jet cleaning without using any harmful cleaning solutions. The pressure cleaning of fifteen or twenty seconds make sure minimum required water usage. It also uses sensor tape and sensor flushing which also ensures minimum usage of water. Water repellent coating inside toilet floor and walls also seems effective for water conservation in public toilets.

15)     Very cost effective in operations: The self cleaning toilets having pressure cleaning facility require regular monitoring and attention; but with less frequency per unit. This will save considerable labor and material cost in operations.

16)     Protection from vandalism: The IPtoilets are designed to operate without manual intervention during its operations in public places. Fasteners used are Allen key and flower key stainless steel socket screws. Sensor tapes, lights and fans are fitted as tamper proof and electronic parts can repair from service room.

17)      Water conservation, waste treatment, solar power and other eco friendly technologies: Altersoft also applied green building philosophy while designing IPtoilet. Pre-flush system saves a lot of water. IPtoilet use water pressure jet just like car washing system and it reduces water usage while cleaning floors. Also water repellent treatment of stainless steel inside also improves cleanliness and reduces water usage.

18)     It keeps users dignity: IPtoilets with its touch less operation, free movement inside, normal close and open doors, always with in hygiene, keeps its users dignified. It has 40% more space than competing product in the market.

19)     Optional features: There are optional features like air conditioner, solar panels and biomembrane tank, Sewage Treatment Plant, Napkin Incinerator and Napkin Vending Machine.
